Art Play!

DIY Class Museum Exhibit Arts & Culture Classes

What’s Happening?

Art Play! is your chance to experiment–a different medium each month–on the first and third Saturday of the month. Go on a scavenger hunt to find works in that medium in Mia’s collection, then make your own artwork in our studios! No prompts, no rules, just play.

Art Play! is free for everyone and open to all ages and abilities. Learn more about Art Play! at new.artsmia.org/art-play

Upcoming events

January 4 and 18: Pastels
What’s the difference between oil pastels and chalk pastels? How do they work together, or not? Find out in this open studio.

February 1 and 15: Collage
Collage is a technique that uses materials like paper, photographs, and fabric, that are ultimately glued onto a larger surface. We’ll have all those supplies and more this month!

March 1 and 15: Assemblage
Assemblage is a work of art created by grouping objects together; usually objects unrelated to one another. Pull from materials found across Mia’s storage spaces to create your own assemblage.

April 5 and 19: Printmaking
There are numerous forms of printmaking, from etching to screenprint. This month, we’ll focus on relief printing: woodcut and linocut, both done through carving. For younger guests, make your own stamp while “carving” foam!
