New Voices in Nonfiction with Justin St. Germain

Continuing Education Discussion Literature

What’s Happening?

The New Voices series brings emerging writers to campus to read with a University of Chicago student. The faculty chooses writers that have published one or two books. We have a separate event for Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Poetry. These are particularly special events for our Program because it is one of the opportunities for our students to showcase their work.

Justin St. Germain is the author of two books: Bookmarked: Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, a hybrid nonfiction work about the seminal true crime book, and the internationally acclaimed memoir Son of a Gun. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Tin House, New England Review, and many other journals and anthologies, and has been awarded the Pushcart Prize and the Barnes & Noble Discover Award. He grew up in a working-class family in the historic town of Tombstone, Arizona, attended Arizona public schools, and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford. He is an associate professor at Oregon State, where he teaches true crime and nonfiction courses.

Sponsored by the Program in Creative Writing and the College.

If you have any questions about access or to request a reasonable accommodation that will facilitate your full participation in this event such as ASL interpreting, captioned videos, Braille or electronic text, food options for individuals with dietary restrictions, etc. please contact the event organizer.
