Brazil's Independent Day Celebration - Saideira Pagode / Forro fo Sho / DJ Francis + Chef Lorraine

DJ Other Food Nightlife

What’s Happening?

Get ready to samba the night away as Cafe CODA throws a fiesta for BRAZIL's Independence Day! Enjoy a double dose of Saideira Pagode & Forro fo Sho for the best Brazilian music. On top of that, Chef Lorraine's back with her tasty Brazilian bites. Cap off the evening with DJ Francis Medrano spinning Brazilian/Latin beats from 11 pm to 2 am! Join the party and let's celebrate in style! Doors swing open at 5 PM - don't be late! The dance floor is ready for you!

7 - 8:30 PM:
"Saideira Pagode (sy-DAY-ruh pa-GOH-jee) is an ensemble of Madison based sambistas, dedicated to the study and performance of old school pagode music and classic samba de raiz (“roots samba”) from the hills of Rio de Janeiro, often played informally around a table in barrooms and at backyard parties. Hand percussion, nylon-string guitar, and cavaquinho (Brazil’s ubiquitous steel-string ukulele) weave a subtly complex groove, seamlessly embroidered with group singing and call and response, creating a tapestry of tonality guaranteed to get your toes tapping around our roda de samba. Saude!"

9 - 10:30 PM:
Forro fo Sho (forro=Fo-HAW) has been introducing the exciting dance rhythms of Northeastern Brazil to Midwestern American audiences since 2015. Under the leadership of accordionist/vocalist Brendan Loula, who started the band while studying ethnomusicology as the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Forro fo Sho has gone from playing to single-digit crowds in libraries and restaurants to animating large crowds in some of the more popular venues of Madison and neighboring cities. With the accordion and voice as base accompanied by saxophone wails and lullabies, the added harmony and groove of the 4-stringed cavaquinho, the constant ringing pulse of the triangle, and the deep bass and high rim shots of the bass-drum like zabumba, Forro fo Sho's sound is a mix of exciting folk sounds and cosmopolitan grooves. Their music is ideal to listen to while sipping a cocktail on a hot summer night, or for heating up the dance floor with forro steps or whatever moves you want to bring to the party. Vem forrozear com a gente!/Come party with us!

11 PM - 2 AM:
