RENT - The Musical

Opera Musicals

What’s Happening?

The Atlanta Opera launches a Discoveries Series immersive experience at Pullman Yards to present both Rent and La bohéme in an exciting new dual production. Developed by Ukranian-Israeli American designer, director, and multimedia artist Vita Tzykun with Tomer Zvulun, the “Boheme Project” plunges the audience into the world of young creatives facing life and death.

Rent traces an unforgettable year in the lives of seven impoverished young artists and loosely echoes the story and timeless emotions of Giacomo Puccini’s famous Italian opera, La bohéme. Facing a pandemic of HIV/AIDS, rather than tuberculosis as in the opera, the artists struggle to follow their dreams and find joy despite living in the face of terrible loss. Gut-wrenching and beautiful, this music will haunt you for a lifetime.

“The message of Rent isn’t just a glib carpe diem but a resounding declaration of ‘stand with your community despite’ and ‘make art despite.’” – New York Times

“…a once-in-a-generation sensation, with its depiction of youthful, hopeful characters, facing enormous loss.”  --  NPR.org

Featuring some of the greatest songs from musical theatre, RENT includes "Seasons of Love," "Light My Candle," "Take Me or Leave Me," "One Song Glory," and many more.

Audiences will be immersed and surrounded by the music and action in the new stage setting built in Atlanta's most exciting venue, Pullman Yards. Reflecting the vibrant and eclectic atmosphere of New York City's East Village in its artistic heyday, the art and music are live and immediate, performed by a superbly talented young cast.
