SPARK — Community Exhibition

Community Art Gallery Art Exhibition

What’s Happening?

2024 Theme: "JOY"

Our most popular annual exhibition, SPARK Community aims to give artists of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities the opportunity to have their work on display. ALL pieces are accepted (one per person) provided they fit the criteria and address the theme.

Public Works Art Center invites the community to take part in the Fourth-Annual SPARK Exhibition. This exhibition exists to “ignite the spark” of creativity in participants and viewers, and all are welcome to take part. One piece per person, regardless of age or background, will be accepted provided it follows the following criteria.

Submitting an application gives us the information we need to make labels, and means you’re committing to dropping off your piece in the allotted time frame. There is no “judging” or “jurying” in a piece for the Spark Community Exhibition – ALL submissions are accepted (one per person, must fit criteria). If you submit your application and drop off your work after August 19 at 10am and before September 2 at 5pm, your piece will be hung. Early and late submissions will not be accepted.

Spark is a themed exhibition comprised of three parts: an invitational component in our largest gallery (The West Gallery), an open-to-all community portion in the adjacent gallery (The East Gallery) and a youth section in our downstairs gallery (The South Gallery). While all invitational artists have been selected, the Community and Youth portions are open to all who would like to submit work no matter their age or level of experience.

This year’s theme is “Joy,” (to foster the growth of something, to nurture it, to tend to it – much like we are doing here at the art center!) and we are thrilled to see the work that comes from this theme. Submission fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children. If money is tight, the submission fee can be waived.

Please read ALL of the criteria below before considering submission!

-Each artist is allowed to submit ONE piece of artwork in any medium no larger than 18 x 24 (22 x 28 matted).

-Artwork MUST be ready to hang, meaning framed with wire on the back. Youtube videos are available online if you do not have experience.

-All artwork must be clearly labeled on the back with name, contact information, and either price or “NFS” (Not For Sale).

-Unlabeled artwork will not be hung. Artwork outside of the sizing parameters won’t be displayed. Artwork without wire on the back will not be displayed.

-For 3-D work that needs to be displayed on a pedestal, please contact us at info@publicworksartcenter.org to ensure that we have space.

-Every artist MUST fill out the Google form. Please make sure to fill out the form BEFORE dropping off your work.

-Work must be dropped off to Public Works Art Center after August 10, 2024 at 10am and before September 24, 2024 at 5pm. Early and late submissions will not be accepted.

-As a “family friendly” community art center that aims to create a safe, inclusive space for all members of our community, we must reject objectively offensive imagery; if there are any concerns, please let us know ahead of time so we can discuss.

-If these steps are not completed, work will not be accepted or displayed.

Public Works Art Center takes a 30% commission on gallery sales. All sold works will be collected at the end of the show and purchasers will be contacted. Artists whose work sold during the course of the show will be contacted at the completion for a W9 form, and checks will be issued by the end of the month, but likely within two weeks.

This year, in conjunction of our major yearly fundraising event (opening reception Block Party), we’re offering artists the opportunity to have their piece featured on a special supporters wall by agreeing to donate the sale of their Spark piece to PWAC.

This year, the exhibition runs from September 7-November 2. As the opening reception for this exhibition, we will have our BLOCK PARTY that opening day (September 7th) to help celebrate. The Block Party will have games, food, performances, and more! PLUS IT’S FREE FOR THE COMMUNITY!

Art work can be picked up last day of exhibition on November 2nd. If art has not been picked up by November 30th at 5pm, work will be donated, sold, or added to an auction to benefit the nonprofit.

Thank you for submitting your work to this exhibition…and please, tell your friends!
