August Wilson's Jitney

Storytelling Multi-Cultural Theater

What’s Happening?

August Wilson’s
Jitney

Written by August Wilson

Directed by Jimmie Woody

Presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals

April 5 – May 5, 2024: Studio Theater

Recommended for ages 14 and older due to subject matter and substantial adult language.

Written in 1979, first produced in 1982, this play was set, and produced in Pittsburgh, PA. When Playwright Wilson took his mother to see that production they arrived by jitney. This Drama Desk Award Winner in 2002, and Tony Award Winner for Best Revival of a Play in 2017, reveals the story of generations of jitney drivers and how they impacted their communities.

“With Jitney, Wilson shines a spotlight on the multi-faceted black American experience” Entertainment Weekly
