What’s Happening?

Saxophonist, composer, and author Walt Weiskopf graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 1980. He began his career with the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1981 at the age of 21. This year, Walt celebrates 20 years as a member of the Steely Dan band. During his career, Walt has performed with Frank Sinatra, Michael McDonald, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett and many more.

A dynamic player with enormous technical prowess, Walt is equally well regarded as a composer and his CDs contain mostly original compositions. His books on jazz improvisation are among the most respected in the field.

Since 2017, Walt has focused on leading his European Quartet (WWEQ), releasing five albums, and touring worldwide. Their new recording, Harmless Addiction (2023) will be released this fall by Believe Digital.

“Weiskopf uses just the right elements from the very best role models to inform his style, meshing the kinetic modulations of John Coltrane with the lyrical imagination and tonal daredevilry of Sonny Rollins.” (JazzTimes)
