Community Chest of Port Washington Thanksgiving Day 5 Mile Run

Nonprofit Fundraisers Running Thanksgiving

What’s Happening?

The Run for the Red Feather

The Port Washington Thanksgiving Day 5 Mile Run is a Long Island Classic celebrating 51 years of racing. The beautiful five mile route runs through the rolling hills of Sands Point and Port Washington. The last two miles are downhill and flat with the finish line in Manorhaven Beach Park overlooking Manhasset Bay.

8:30AM Start - Rain or Shine

Our Annual Thanksgiving Day Run will celebrate the special bond between the Community Chest, our running community, and the 30 non-profits who change the lives of over 7,000 residents of the Port Washington Community each day with The Run for the Red Feather.

Each Year The Run for the Red Feather will help the Community Chest recognize and celebrate our shared commitment to the Port Washington community by awarding our First Place Men’s and Women’s Runners winners a $1,000 “Grant Prize,” which they will donate to one of next year’s Community Chest Charities.

These two runners will also have their names added to the Red Feather Award trophy, which symbolizes our shared responsibility to help our friends and neighbors in need. The Red Feather Award trophy was created in 2023 by renowned sculptor Alice Riordan with the Art Guild of Port Washington (a Community Chest grantee).
