The Ripple - A One Night Music Event w/ John Kadlecik, Duane Betts, The Deadlocks - @ Fair Building

Live Music Concert

What’s Happening?

On Friday, September 25, The Ripple brings an exceptional group of musicians together in Jackson, Wyoming for an immersive night centered on the music of the Grateful Dead, improvisation, and the unexpected musical connections that happen when great players share a stage.

Presented by Highland Music, The Ripple features John Kadlecik, Duane Betts and Jeremy Hoenig performing with Jackson Hole and Teton Valley's own The Deadlocks, plus additional special guests.

This is not a traditional concert built around separate opening and headlining sets. The Ripple is designed around collaboration. Musicians will move in and out of the lineup throughout the evening, exploring the Grateful Dead songbook, related music, and spontaneous combinations while leaving room for the songs to go somewhere new.

John Kadlecik co-founded Dark Star Orchestra in 1997 and spent more than a decade as the band's lead guitarist and vocalist, helping establish DSO as one of the country's most respected interpreters of the Grateful Dead catalog. In 2009, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh invited Kadlecik to join Furthur, where he performed alongside them for five years. He has also performed with Phil Lesh and Friends and is a member of Melvin Seals and JGB.

Duane Betts brings another deeply connected American musical tradition to The Ripple. The son of Allman Brothers Band guitarist and songwriter Dickey Betts, Duane is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who co-founded The Allman Betts Band and now leads Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel. He has also performed in multiple Phil Lesh and Friends lineups, bringing the melodic guitar language of the Allman Brothers tradition into Phil Lesh's open-ended approach to improvisational music.

Drummer Jeremy Hoenig, a member of Melvin Seals and JGB, is deeply rooted in the Bay Area's Grateful Dead and improvisational music community. He has also performed with Phil Lesh and Friends, including Lesh's later Clubhouse Sessions and Darkstarathon projects.

The Deadlocks have performed throughout Jackson Hole and Teton Valley for more than a decade, building a local community around the music of the Grateful Dead and the experience of hearing it performed live. The band has shared the stage locally with nationally recognized artists including Melvin Seals and Jackie Greene.

The connection between these musicians is part of what makes The Ripple unique. Kadlecik, Betts and Hoenig have each been invited into Phil Lesh's musical world, where songs were treated not as fixed arrangements, but as starting points for exploration. Bringing them together with The Deadlocks creates an opportunity for that same spirit to take shape in Jackson.

The goal is not to recreate a particular Grateful Dead show note for note. It is to approach the music the way the musicians who created it did: listen, respond, take chances, and let the music evolve in the moment.

For The Ripple, Highland Music is transforming the Teton County Fairgrounds Community Building from a familiar multipurpose space into a dedicated live music environment.

The room will feature concert staging and lighting, temporary acoustic treatment, and a sound system engineered specifically for the dimensions and acoustic characteristics of the building. The result will feel fundamentally different from a typical event in a community hall: a purpose-built concert experience created for one night.

The Ripple is an all-ages event, with a ticket structure designed to make it easier for families to experience the music together.

Each adult ticket includes free admission for up to two guests under 18.

The music of the Grateful Dead has been passed between generations for more than 60 years, and The Ripple is intended to be a place where longtime listeners, younger fans and families can experience it together.

Whether you've followed this music for decades or are hearing it live for the first time, The Ripple is built around a simple idea: bring exceptional musicians together, create a room where the music can be heard the way it should be heard, and give the players the freedom to see where it goes.
