Ami Taf Ra & Kamasi Washington presenting The Prophet & The Madman

Concert

What’s Happening?

Ami Taf Ra brings her sweeping, cross cultural sound to City Winery Pittsburgh this November, joined by acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and producer Kamasi Washington for a tour presentation of her debut album, The Prophet and the Madman. Produced by Washington and released on Brainfeeder, the album draws on Moroccan Gnawa, Arabic musical tradition, gospel, soul, and spiritual jazz, inspired in part by Kahlil Gibran's writing on healing and ancestral memory. Ami's commanding, operatic voice carries the record from intimacy to theatrical release.

The partnership between Ami and Washington anchors the project, heard most clearly on "How I Became a Madman," a meditation on the tension between chaos and clarity. Together they build something that feels both rooted in tradition and pointed toward what comes next, connecting North African and Middle Eastern music with the improvisational spirit of contemporary jazz.

Ami's international resume includes performances across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the United States, among them the Dutch Royal Metropole Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, and City Winery Boston. Washington, a Grammy winner and Emmy nominee, remains one of his generation's defining musical voices, moving fluently between jazz, soul, hip hop, classical, and screen work.

This is a chance to experience The Prophet and the Madman as it was meant to be heard, live, with Ami's storytelling and vocal range meeting Washington's musical universe, in our seated concert venue with dinner and wine service part of the night. Doors open at 6:00 PM and 9:30 PM. Reserve your table for one of the most distinctive concert experiences in Pittsburgh this November.
