What’s Happening?

Taylor Hollingsworth

Birmingham, Alabama's Taylor Hollingsworth has always resisted easy categorization. Asked to define his music, he struggled – a little bit folk, a touch of blues, a dash of rock 'n' roll, but not quite fitting neatly into any single box. Eventually, he coined the phrase “Folk n’ Roll” to describe his sound. Now, he's proudly claiming that sound with his latest album, aptly titled "Folk n' Roll." Fans of JJ Cale, Mississippi John Hurt, Chuck Berry, Richard Thompson, Jonathan Richman, and John Prine will find much delight in Hollingsworth's blend of timeless influences.

For much of the early aughts, Hollingsworth toured extensively with his punk-tinged rock band (think Ramones meets Chuck Berry meets ZZ Top) and worked as a hired gun playing guitar with various artists on the road (most notably with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band). However, following the birth of his daughter, he took a hiatus from touring to dedicate himself to his family and cultivate his craft as a full-time local musician in Birmingham, AL.

During this time, he honed his skills through countless monthly residencies at bars and restaurants, playing everything from laid-back brunch sets to raucous late-night clubs. It was during this time that he perfected his captivating one-man show, now dubbed "Folk n' Roll." After years of refining his act for local crowds, Hollingsworth began working with longtime friend and former bandmate Matt Patton (Drive by Truckers/Dexateens/Laura Jane Grace) who owns and operates Dial Back Sound, a studio and record label based out of Water Valley, MS. After recording and releasing his last album “Yahola” with Dial Back Sound, Hollingsworth found himself hitting the road once again, armed with his new solo one-man show. His performances are a sight to behold - finger-picked electric guitar, a mic'd up foot stomp box providing the rhythmic backbone, and occasionally the addition of a looper pedal to layer in guitar solos, all while delivering his signature storytelling lyrics. Audiences are consistently blown away by the unexpectedly big sound he creates, with many proclaiming it to be one of the best shows they've ever seen.

Since the release of “Yahola,” Hollingsworth has been a road warrior, touring with a wide stylistic range of artists including Laura Jane Grace, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Dash Rip Rock, and Har Mar Superstar, while also headlining his own shows across the United States.

Cannon Rogers
Exploring the absurdity of modernity via guitar solos, banjo rolls, and a healthy sense of Southern Gothic humor, Athens, GA based singer-songwriter Cannon Rogers carves out a space uniquely his own in the fertile musical grounds of the Peach State. After years on the road as a multi-instrumentalist with acts like Susto, Cracker, Waylon Wyatt and Futurebirds, Rogers' first release (Hydroponic Southern Gothic EP, March 2026) synthesizes his love of his home and the distinctly Southern characters he grew up around with a gnawing sense that three chords, the truth and a loud amplifier might not be enough to shift the cultural tides we fight to stay afloat in these days.

Julia Barfield
22-year-old Athens, GA-based singer-songwriter Julia Barfield was raised in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains– an upbringing filled with the folk and Americana music that inspire her sound and the experiences that inform her writing. After relocating to Athens to study at the University of Georgia, Julia found herself immersed in the vibrant Athens music scene. She began making her way around local open mics and playing on small bills until the subtle magic of the Athens music scene pushed her in the direction of her first recording project.

Born out of chance meetings at the local guitar shop and the kindness of friends and strangers, Barfield’s debut EP, “Keep to Me” is a definitively southern patchwork of songs that is equal parts heartache and hope, delivering difficult truths with casual conviction and a warm, gentle-yet-commanding sound that have become her signature.
Julia is joined on the EP by Ben Hackett (production, engineering, bass), McKendrick Bearden (guitar, keys, lap steel), Andrew McFarland (drums), and Arianna Petersen (cello). “Keep to Me” was tracked live at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia in November 2024 and released independently in February 2025.
