What’s Happening?

Meet Keith Seaman of Casa Grande, Candidate for AZ House, LD16. He is a member of the Coolidge Unified School District Governing Board. Seaman, now retired, has nearly 40 years of experience as an Arizona educator under his belt.

He got his start at Warragul Technical School in Australia shortly after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from California State University in 1969. After that, Seaman took up a position at Lake Havasu High School, where he spent more than 15 years teaching English.

Then in 1991, he became the Mohave County School Superintendent before taking up an administrative position seven years later. During his time with Mohave County, he played a key role in helping to launch a school inside the county’s juvenile detention center as part of a statewide mandate.

In 1998, Seaman returned to working at a school campus when he became principal of the Santa Rosa Boarding School in Sells, Arizona.

Located on the Tohono O’odham Nation, the Santa Rose Board school is operated under the Bureau of Indian Education — a factor that allowed Seaman to see education from a different perspective.“I learned in my 12 years down there what Native American students need and how that might differ from regular students,” he said.

Then in 2015, he retired from education as an Adjunct Professor at Central Arizona College and a substitute teacher in Pinal County.
