What’s Happening?

As an outspoken survivor of sexual and domestic violence, Kat Stratford is running as a Democrat in the new LD18. She has volunteered with Homicide Survivors Inc since 2013. She became a certified Rape Crisis Advocate at SACASA in 2014, working directly with survivors of sexual assault.

Kat plans to focus on the unprecedented climate crisis that will render much of our beautiful desert uninhabitable within 50 years. Families are still struggling to gain reasonable access to basics like healthcare, education, and food assistance. Voting rights and reproductive rights are at stake in 2022.

Kat Stratford is a single mom to a brilliant daughter and an extraordinary trans son. A 20-year resident of Tucson, Kat is an outspoken advocate for victims of violent crime, and has spent the last two years focused on policies that would help survivors of sexual and domestic violence. As a survivor herself, she is dedicated to removing hurdles that keep people in dangerous situations.

Kat has been living with Meniere’s Disease since 2020 and is acquiring deafness and learning ASL. She plans to focus on these issues as well as climate change, reproductive and voting rights, and expanding access to education.

Since 2002, she’s called Tucson her home. Both her children were born here. As a single mom, she knows firsthand the challenges facing everyday Arizonans. She’s spent several years employed as a waitress to make ends meet while also working on progressive campaigns. This led her to a job on a presidential campaign to defeat Trump and turn Arizona Blue for the first time in almost 30 years.

“As a waitress, I’ve served hundreds of tables, but now, I’m running for a seat at one,” says Kat Stratford. “I’ve always been passionate about helping others,” she says.

Every day she gets messages from survivors of sexual assault looking for help to get out of those same circumstances. “It’s an honor to be able to help individuals facing the same institutional hurdles I had to overcome, but now it’s time to think bigger,” she says.

She will show up every day to fight for progress, to protect our civil liberties, and for a more equitable Arizona.
