Shameka Carter Exhibition

Paintings Art Exhibition

What’s Happening?

Shameka Carter is a Shelby County-based visual artist and owner of Adorndaily.com, where she sells her mixed media creations - from expressive paintings to handcrafted copper jewelry. A graduate of Central High School, Memphis College of Art, and the University of Memphis, her commitment to the visual arts spans decades.

Her art has been exhibited in Dixon Gallery and Garden's Interactive Gallery, Germantown Performing Arts Center, Memphis Botanic Garden, Memphis Brooks Museum's Gift Shop, and various shows. For nineteen years, she has served as an art educator with Memphis-Shelby County Schools, and now also coordinates the AAPI Heritage Month Student Art Contest, uplifting young voices through creativity.

This will be her first solo show, titled Winter Embrace, offering her earthly, ethereal style designed to evoke warmth and comfort. Through her art, Shameka hopes to bring people together and enrich her community by providing a sense of peace.

"Through my layered mixed media, I seek to evoke a sense of comfort and warmth-an emotional refuge amidst the noise and coldness of the world. Each piece is an invitation to pause, feel held, and reconnect with quiet moments of tenderness and whimsical familiarity.

Through my art, I yearn to stir a sense of quiet comfort in the soul and wrap the viewer in a gentle sense of solace. It is my hope that my art feels like a soft embrace during this cold season. Each layer is a metaphor for the complex emotions and psychological layers of people. The use of various layers is common for my style of art.

In this collection, each piece is built through layers of color, texture, and form, serving as a symbol for the layered nature of human emotion and identity. Just as people carry hidden layers beneath the surface, we also hope to display our "best" layer, the outer one. All these layers combined are what make humans beautiful.

My intention is to craft a visual space that shows the beauty of people and nature - where warmth lingers, and comfort takes root.”
