Altus

Performance Art Jazz Music Concert

What’s Happening?

Led by visionary trumpeter and composer Dave Adewumi, Altus is a dynamic quintet redefining the modern jazz experience. Whether on stage in an intimate club or a concert hall, Altus delivers performances that are immersive, adventurous, and profoundly human. Their sound invites audiences to listen beyond genre—to experience jazz not only as music, but as a living myth.

Free, reservations encouraged.
Location: Ipswich High School

Formed from long-standing musical friendships, the ensemble’s chemistry is palpable. Adewumi’s luminous trumpet leads dialogues with saxophones, bass, and drums that blur the boundaries between structure and spontaneity. Each performance unfolds like a story—alive with surprise, tension, and release—drawing listeners into a journey of sound that feels both ancient and urgently new. Their debut album, Mythos (Biophilia Records), captures the group’s creative ethos. Inspired by Greek and Yoruba mythology, the music explores themes of creation, rebellion, and transcendence, reflecting Adewumi’s deep curiosity about the connections between narrative and sound. The result is music that is at once cerebral and visceral, rich in emotional nuance yet unafraid of risk.

A rising voice in the contemporary jazz landscape, Adewumi has performed alongside some of today’s leading artists, earning recognition for his distinctive tone and expressive approach. With Altus, he channels that artistry into a collective vision—one that celebrates improvisation as a form of storytelling and performance as a shared act of imagination.
