Painted Worlds: Color and Culture in Mesoamerican Art

Museum Exhibit Multi-Cultural Art Exhibition

What’s Happening?

The special exhibition Painted Worlds: Color and Culture in Mesoamerican Art explores the relationships between color, the cosmos, and creation in Indigenous cultures of Mexico and Central America.

Painted Worlds is a color-coded journey through 3,000 years of Mesoamerican art and roughly 250 objects, many rarely or never seen before in the U.S. Along the way, learning stations and multimedia experiences teach us about the sciences of color-making, interpret dialogues between Western and Indigenous practices, and map the Mesoamerican idea of the cosmos.

Featuring works by past and contemporary Indigenous artists, Painted Worlds reveals a sacred spectrum of Mesoamerican traditions, knowledge, and practices. Reserve your tickets today.
