More about Connecticut's Old State House
Located in the heart of Hartford, Connecticut’s Old State House was home to all three branches of state government from 1796 to 1878. Some of the state’s most important stories of freedom, democracy, and civic action – from the Amistad and Prudence Crandall trials to the Constitutional Convention of 1818 – connect to this National Historic Landmark. The authentically restored building now offers a mix of historic rooms, modern exhibits, educational programs, tours, and year-round special events focusing on Connecticut history and civics. The site is also home to the “Steward’s Museum of Curiosities,” where Rev. Joseph Steward maintained a portrait studio and unusual collection from 1797-1808. Connecticut’s Old State House, managed in partnership with The Connecticut Democracy Center and the Connecticut General Assembly, is available for private rental. The elegant building and grounds provide a unique backdrop for life celebrations, parties, conferences, lectures, and more. For more information, visit ctoldstatehouse.org.
