A Tangled Plot: Works by Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson

Museum Exhibit Summer Other Arts and Culture

What’s Happening?

July 12–October 5, 2025 in the Holmes Gallery.

Mark your calendars—Artists Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson will be back at VBMA for a catalog signing on Saturday, September 13, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Summer 2025 exhibition at the VBMA will showcase 42 paintings and mixed media works by the collaborative duo Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson. Blazejack earned her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston at Tufts University, while Levenson received her MFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Their work spans various media and reflects their shared focus on the environment and their upbringing in Miami, Florida. Blazejack and Levenson have been creating and exhibiting together for more than a decade, with past shows at venues such as The Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, NC; the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, PA; the Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, FL; and the Deering Estate in Miami, FL, among others. Blazejack and Levenson’s work draws on a diverse range of influences, including art history, science fiction, fantasy, mythology, and theater. Their art, which incorporates surreal elements, explores themes of sentience and the relationship between people and the natural world. At times, evoking a spooky humor, the works prompt playful reimaginings of human-nature relationships. Moreover, their art challenges our ideas of true ecological conservation, questioning who should control nature, for what purposes, and why.
