Protect Our Aquifer: "Away With The Tides" Gallery Talk

Spring Summer Other Arts and Culture

What’s Happening?

On September 4th, Protect Our Aquifer representatives Sabrina Taylor and Scott Schoefernacker will be joined by creative Zaire Love to lead a conversation about the urgency and necessity of protecting the Memphis Sand Aquifer. Inspired by Calida Rawles’s “Away With The Tides”, this talk will focus on water advocacy, social justice, and the importance of community-based organizing. Water the roots of change with the knowledge of how and why the Memphis Aquifer needs to be protected.

Protect Our Aquifer is a Memphis community organization founded in December 2016 to protect the drinking water source for Memphis, TN. POA has since launched a holistic mission and a forward-facing vision, long held by indigenous peoples. POA is a science-led advocacy organization that prioritizes inclusion of diverse local communities, scientific integrity in aquifer protection, fierce advocacy in public decision-making, and celebration of the aquifer’s model stewards and good neighbors.

The museum and all its programs are made possible by the generous support of museum members. Members enjoy free daily admission to Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and receive discounts of up to 50% on ticketed events. Join today at thebrooks.org/join
