MAEP Artist Talk: Charles Matson Lume

Museum Exhibit Lecture

What’s Happening?

Join us for an engaging conversation with MAEP Artist Charles Matson Lume and Jennifer Nevitt (MAEP Artist 2017–2018). The pair will discuss Matson Lume’s current exhibition and art’s role in our lives, including as memento mori or remembering life’s fleetingness. The program is part of the exhibition “Charles Matson Lume: lacuna (for Gustaf Sobin),” on view now through June 29, 2025.

Charles Matson Lume is a visual artist who engages in the pas de deux of light and matter. He’s exhibited his work at numerous institutions and received fellowships from the Bush Foundation, Jerome Foundation, Adolf and Esther Gotlieb Foundation, and Pollock-Krasner Foundation. He holds an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and lives in Saint Paul.

Jennifer Nevitt received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1996 and an MFA from the University of Minnesota in 2011. She’s influenced by the idea that real life expands our concept of art, using painting, sculpture, and textiles to explore narratives about the human experience of dwelling and being.

The exhibition is part of the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program, celebrating 50 years in 2025.
