Hosted by Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in partnership with We Met in Miami and author Oscar Fuentes (The Biscayne Poet), this one-of-a-kind experience invites you to explore the power of storytelling, reflect on your roots, and forge new relationships through shared histories.

Kick off the afternoon with a moving talk by Oscar Fuentes, who’ll share how he pieced together his family’s powerful narrative in Relics of the Heart: Stories of My Family.

📚 Pop-Up Book Club
Dive into select passages from the book in small group discussions guided by thoughtful prompts—no need to read the book beforehand!

🏛️ Historic Guided Tour
Take a walking tour of Vizcaya Village and uncover the untold stories of the people who lived and worked on these grounds over a century ago.

🖼️ Create and Connect
Bring a family photo and add your story to a living community collage, blending your memories with those of others and archival images of Vizcaya.

About the book

Relics of the Heart: Stories of my Family is an exciting journey through the memories and experiences of Oscar Fuentes' family. In this book, Fuentes masterfully weaves real and emotional stories that capture the essence of family life and the importance of the emotional ties that unite us.

From the simplest and most significant moments, such as sharing a meal, celebrating a birth or enjoying a vacation, to the complexities of facing Alzheimer's disease, Relics of the Heart invites us to reflect on the value of family as the basis of society.

Available in English and Spanish

Location

Vizcaya Village features 11 architecturally significant buildings on 12 acres that were built in 1916 at the same time as the Main House to make Vizcaya self-sufficient. The event will take place in the Garage, pictured below circa 1917 in a photograph from Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Archives.

Access to the Main House and gardens is not included: This experience is intended to explore the history of the Vizcaya Village on the western half of the museum and does not include access to the Main House and gardens on the east side of South Miami Avenue.
