Penguin Chick Gender Reveal

Educational Community Zoo & Animals

What’s Happening?

Waddle they be?

We will be revealing the sexes of our THREE baby penguin chicks on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11am at the penguin point exhibit, but three lucky people will be able to find the answers early and win a painting from a baby. Did you know it’s nearly impossible to tell the sex of a penguin by just looking at them? We need to wait for them to be big enough for a blood draw and receive the DNA results.

You’ll have a chance to learn about penguin breeding here at LRZ and what it takes to raise them. There will also be activities to learn about identifying individual in the colony and making your own ID bracelet. 3 lucky visitors may even get to weigh in the color bands for the babies.

African penguins have recently become a critically endangered species and face extinction. But the good news is that there are little things we can do to help them even here in Arkansas. There will be information and activities about sustainable fishing and decreasing one use plastics-two major issues penguins are facing. You’ll also be able to learn about LRZs conservation partners SANCOOB, SSP and SAFE.

Dive into our latest blog post to explore their incredible journey and the dedicated care that made these hatchlings’ arrival possible! Big News from the Little Rock Zoo: Three Penguin Chicks Hatch!
