Def-i-ing Settler Logics: A Workshop & Performance through Native Hip-Hop

OMSA Heritage Series Presented in partnership with the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture’s Reimagining the University: Race + Arts Initiative

Award Winning Diné artist ‘Def-i’ will join campus for two dynamic events, an interactive hip hop storytelling workshop that will invite participants to create their own hip hop track with his guidance, and an exclusive performance at the Logan Arts Center Cafe where he will share his music and artistry, continuing to decolonize settler logics surrounding Native identity. Def-i carves out an original niche from introspective and poetic Hip Hop, emerging from Dinétah & the underground rap circuit. He is an experienced youth workshop provider, active Recording Academy / GRAMMYs member, and has served abroad as a U.S. State Department Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador with Next Level Team Nigeria & Team France. Def-i’s dedication to cultural preservation and lyrical mastery has earned him the respect of Hip Hop veterans, industry professionals, academics, and upcoming generations.
