Funkanites
Funk
Funkanites is an eight-piece Little Rock, Arkansas-based ensemble. They can handle any genre thrown at them; however, their focus is heavily on late ‘60s and ‘70s Afrobeat, soul, and funk with a contemporary spin on the genres. Big bombastic horn lines are the norm, as well as an airtight rhythm section that stretches and sews the pocket, but never leaves it. They are ambassadors of music that is not so readily available in a live setting today.

Founded in 2010 by core members of Amasa Hines—Judson Spillyards, Ryan Hitt, and Norman Williamson—Funkanites comprises world-class musicians who are no strangers to the major festival scene. Major festivals performed within the experience of these musicians include Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, and SXSW to name a few. Though the lineup of the band has changed a few times since its inception, the current members have been in place for the past five years with other musicians rotating in as needed.

In 2014, the band was honored with the Aurora Award and Telly Award, for its concert feature on AETN television network. DJ Xavier Riley
Music
With a passion for music and a proven ability to perform at a pinnacle level, Xavier Riley is greatly impacting the music scene in Arkansas. A native of Little Rock, Xavier realized his love for music at an early age while being raised in the church. He developed his artistry for sound through self taught means. His first love is drumming. This came natural for Xavier as a child, spending hours creating rhythmic sounds around his house. Later that talent was recognized by his father and was given the opportunity to perform publicly in their home church. Over the years, Xavier found his way into studio production, writing and producing music for local artists. Becoming a DJ was a seamless transition. Using his keen sense of rhythm, accompanied by his passion to produce sound allowed for his DJing skills to emerge.

Xavier’s musical and scholastic talents earned him a partial scholarship to the University of Arkansas. He studied under the leadership of Dr. Charles Law majoring in Percussion. During this period, Xavier’s talents as a percussionist, as well as a Music Director were sought after by many local, and national artists. Xavier was co-founder and owner of In His Presence Productions, Inc., a Christian production company. Through this venture, he taught percussion basics as well as graphic artistry. His graphic talents have been enlisted by countless businesses and non-profits. While searching for a DJ for his upcoming wedding, Xavier was offered the opportunity to utilize his gifts, talents, and skills as a DJ for the largest entertainment company in Arkansas. Xavier currently DJs close to 100 events per year.

Xavier prides himself in creating memorable moments be it a wedding or a major corporate event. Thus resulted in his infamous tagline #XperienceTheMoment. His client list includes: A residency at Cache Resturaunt, PINK by Victoria’s Secret, Crain Automotive Group, German based Life Plus, Inc., KATV, Cal Ark, Little Rock Zoo, J. Crew, The Anthony School, March of Dimes, Club Level, Little Rock Air Force Base, Indigo Clothing Boutique, Little Rock Marriot, Calfrac Well Services, Bar Louie, One Banc, and numerous weddings/receptions.

Xavier’s education and professional experiences, coupled with his influence on his community lead to him being sought after and appointed to serve not only as a musician, but as a mentor to several young men and women who thirst for knowledge in becoming successful in the business and profession of music and entrepreneurship. Xavier’s musical acumen and faithfulness to his gift has now placed him in a position to reach generations of people as he serves alongside many of the nation’s most notable musicians and DJs.
