What’s Happening?

Join International Spy Museum Historian and Curator Dr. Andrew Hammond in conversation with General David H. Petraeus (US Army, Ret.) former Director of the CIA. Petraeus has recently written Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine with historian Andrew Roberts. A sweeping examination of war, the book provides a penetrating analysis of what can be learned from the past—and anticipate in the future—in order to navigate an increasingly perilous world.

Hammond will explore with Petraeus how he brought his impressive experience to bear on this incisive study of 70 years of conflict. Petraeus, who is a Spy Museum Honorary Board Member, served over 37 years in the US military, culminating with six consecutive commands, five of which were in combat, including command of the Surge in Iraq, command of US Central Command, and command of coalition forces in Afghanistan. Following retirement from the military and after Senate confirmation by a vote of 94-0, he headed the CIA during a period of significant achievements in the global war on terror, the establishment of important Agency digital initiatives, and significant investments in the Agency’s human capital.

Petraeus graduated with distinction from the US Military Academy and is the only person in Army history to be the top graduate of both the demanding US Army Ranger School and the US Army’s Command and General Staff College. He has earned numerous honors, awards, and decorations, including four Defense Distinguished Service Medals, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, two NATO Meritorious Service Medals, the Combat Action Badge, the Ranger Tab, and Master Parachutist and Air Assault Badges. Petraeus is currently a Partner in the global investment firm KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which he established in May 2013.

Following their conversation, the audience will have a chance to ask their own questions.

Conflict will be available for sale and signing at the program and online.

The in-person event will have open seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Join as a member today to receive an invitation to a members-only reception with guest speaker General David H. Petraeus before the event.
