What’s Happening?

Explore an entirely new way of understanding love and appreciating it’s benefits from positive relationship expert Dr. Barbara Fredrickson in her keynote discussion on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Even more than happiness and optimism, love holds the key to improving our mental and physical health as well as lengthening our lives. Using research from her own lab, Dr. Fredrickson redefines love not as a stable behemoth, but as micro-moments of connection
between people—even strangers. Learn how our capacity for experiencing love can be measured and strengthened in ways that improve our health and longevity and how informal and formal practices can unlock love in our lives, generate compassion, and even self-soothe. Rare in her approach and ambitious in her message, Dr. Fredrickson will reinvent how you look at and experience our most powerful emotion. Join us for this community event!

Guest Speaker:
Barbara Fredrickson, Ph.D., is a social psychologist who conducts research in emotions and positive psychology. Her main work is related to her broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, which suggests that positive emotions lead to novel, expansive, or exploratory behavior, and that, over time, these actions lead to meaningful, long-term resources such as knowledge and social relationships.

Dr. Fredrickson is the author of Positivity and Love 2.0. She is Kenan Distinguished Professor of Psychology and director of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Praise for Barbara’s book Love 2.0:

“A radically new conception of love.”—The Atlantic

“I wish I had known years ago about…Barbara Fredrickson…In particular her theory that
accumulating ‘micro-moments of positivity,’ like my daily interaction with children, can, over
time, result in greater overall well-being.”—Jane Brody, The New York Times
