Herbal Nootropics

Self-care

What’s Happening?

Among herbalists, the term nootropic still incorporates most of these vital points: herbs that enhance memory, learning, or mental alertness, and—as with most of our common herbs—generally have few problematic side effects. Given the complexity of the brain, there’s no shortage of things that can go wrong! We’ll touch on a few of the problems that can disrupt brain function, which may give you some ideas about the range of concerns that might suggest the use of nootropics and other herbal support for the nervous system. We will cover the physiological basis of how nootropics promote brain health and function along with important considerations for supporting health of the body as a whole. In order to understand how nootropics work, it helps to have a basic understanding of some of the structures that underlie brain function. Then we will go over a handful of the most accessible, sustainable, and effective nootropic herbs and what they do to support our cognitive function.  The last part of this class will be hand on learning. Each student will be given the opportunity to make two different “brain food” herbal recipes:

  • Honey Rosemary Memory Elixir
  • Well Focused Attention Nootropic Tea
