What’s Happening?

Join us for Food Day Omaha 2022! We are back for our event at the Omaha Farmers Market downtown at 11th and Jackson Streets!

Food Day Omaha is part of a national movement that aims to:

-Promote safer, healthier diets

-Support sustainable and organic farms

-Reduce hunger

-Reform factory farms to protect the environment and animals

-Support fair working conditions for food and farm workers

Food Day is a partnership between The Reader, MCC Institute for the Culinary Arts, Omaha Farmers Market, Midwest Dairy, Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue, No More Empty Pots and many more local organizations.

At the event, a collection of local food and health-related organizations will provide activities, information, demonstrations and awareness about their respective focuses. Attendees can interact with experts to discuss a variety of topics, including balanced diet, local growing, cooking, agriculture, food policy issues and hunger. Booths will feature cooking and food preparation demonstrations using items that can be purchased at the Omaha Farmers Market. Visitors will also be invited to get their hands dirty and connect with growers and experts for tips on planting and tending to a garden.

At 10 a.m., Food Day Omaha Awards will be presented to organizations and individuals leading the charge locally to advocate for healthy food and healthy food policy. Five honorees, nominated by our judges and chosen as the winner by public voting, will be named: Producer of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, and Food Day Champion. The Food Day team will also present a lifetime achievement award to an individual who has devoted his or her career to the values of Food Day Omaha.

This interactive and educational event is free and open to the entire community. We hope to see everyone there! Visit fooddayomaha.com or facebook.com/fooddayomaha for more information.
