TheDGT.org Salon: Senior Benefits Are at Risk with GOP Plan

Educational Community

What’s Happening?

Your Senior Benefits are at Risk. Florida Senator Rick Scott, head of the Republican Study Committee, has doubled down on his plan to end Social Security and Medicare.

The proposal would cancel the benefit programs most Americans rely on in old age. Scott’s plan would sunset — eliminate — all federal legislation, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Last week, Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson voiced his support for eliminating Social Security and Medicare as federal benefit programs.

Join us at our latest DGT.org evening Salon. Our panelist will discuss the real-life consequences of this legislation regarding Social Security, Medicare, and the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Arizona Senior Citizen Benefits and Elder Law issues will be covered as well.

Our speaker

Mark Clark is President & CEO of the Pima Council of Aging, a position he has held since 2014. He has more than 35 years of executive leadership in behavioral health, aging, human service, housing, and faith-based organizations. He is currently a board member of the Rotary Club of Tucson, TUSD Benefits Trust and Presidio San Agustin.

He has been active in many community and professional organizations, including the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, Old Ft. Lowell Neighborhood Association, the National Organization of Social Workers, and the United Way.

He was named the Arizona Social Worker of the Year in 2009 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness. Mark holds a master’s in social work from ASU and an undergraduate degree from NAU. He was a 2002 Fellow of the Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He has taught at the ASU School of Social Work and Pima Community College at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
