We are excited to announce that Gallery 1516 is presenting a Regional Biennial Exhibition! The Regional Biennial will occur every other year and will alternate with the Nebraska Biennial. This exciting new exhibition will be open to artists from Nebraska and the six bordering states: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
The 2022 Regional Biennial will focus on Photography as a medium. Approximately 100 photographers from throughout the region will be selected to show work in the exhibition at Gallery 1516, all of which will be available for sale. $10,000 will be awarded as the “Omaha Prize” to the photographer named Best-in-Show. Other award distinctions include top category winners, artists’ choice, and people’s choice. All included photographers will be featured in and receive a hardcover, bound copy of the 2022 Regional Biennial Exhibition Book.
Two distinguished judges have been selected to represent an international voice in photography; Diego and April Uchitel. Diego Uchitel grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to Los Angeles after high school and began his photography career. He has become known for his elegantly arresting signature style and has photographed some of the world's most beautiful and fascinating subjects for the past 20 years including David Bowie, Jerry Seinfeld, Claire Danes, Zooey Deschanel, and Evan Rachel Wood. April Uchitel has led a successful business career as co-founder of The Board and former CEO of Violet Grey. In 2021, the Uchitels’ opened Dish Studios in LA, a photo location and creative studio to inspire themselves and to be a resource for community creators and partners.
