Haunted by God: The Life of Dorothy Day

An acclaimed one-woman play about an American Catholic icon

·       Dec. 6, Monday

·       7 p.m.

·       Register by Dec. 3

·       An in-person event. Seating is limited.

“Haunted by God” is an acclaimed play, produced by Still Point Theatre Collective, about Dorothy Day, a Catholic lay woman born in 1897 and died 1980. Day co-founded the Catholic Worker movement and spent 47 years caring for the poor and leading the Catholic Church to a more active participation in social justice.

The one-woman play, written by Paul Amandes, Lisa Wagner-Carollo, and Robert McClory, has been called "a compelling warts-and-all portrait" and "wonderfully uplifting theater experience.”

When Pope Francis made his historic address to the U.S. Congress in 2015, he called Day one of four “great Americans,” along with Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and Thomas Merton, the Catholic monk.

Haunted by God is dramatic portrait of this inspiring woman. It follows Dorothy from her days as an 18-year-old Greenwich Village bohemian through her career as a journalist and then as a tireless champion of social justice.

The first phase of the process to declare Dorothy Day a saint in the Catholic Church -- the gathering of documents, testimonies and witness accounts -- has been completed. The documents will be bundled together, wrapped in red ribbon, wax seals affixed and shipped to the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints. A special send-off ceremony is scheduled on December 8 as part of a Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Lisa Wagner-Carollo, the founder and artistic director of the Still Point Theatre Collective, will bring this one-woman play to the Renewal Center for an evening performance.

We practice social distancing and require masks indoors.

We also have a capacity limit as part of our COVID protocols. If any program meets that limit, a waiting list is begun. If your name is on a waiting list and a spot becomes available, you will be notified and you have two days to register.
